Rheinsberg in the Mark Brandenburg. When Friedrich the 2nd, King of Prussia, was still the young Fritz, he build Castle Rheinsberg as a muse yard for himself. Later, Kurt Tucholsky and Theodor Fontane gave a literary tribute to this town. Since 1991 the "Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg" (Chamber Opera Rheinsberg Castle) fulfils the old muse yard with new life.

The Berlin composer, Professor Siegfried Matthus, created the international opera festival for young singers at this historical place. Rheinsberg became a festival city and host for the elite of young singers worldwide. These are the winners of the international singing competition of the chamber opera, who are chosen at the beginning of the year out of approx. 450 singers who audition. The stars of tomorrow fascinate thousands of classical music fans travelling to Rheinsberg with the charisma of their young voices. The visitors enjoy the Open Air Opera in the wonderful surroundings: In the hedge theatre in the midst of a magnificent park landscape, in the honour yard of the castle with its outstanding acoustics and view of the sunset over the lake. The rebuild castle theatre fits into the historical building complex of castle and cavalier-house and amazes in the inside with a modern auditorium.

Experienced, renown conductors and directors work with the young singers on opera roles under professional conditions and support the festival as members of the committee. E.g. Daniel Barenboim, Harry Kupfer, Kurt Masur and Christian Thielemann. Bound in gratitude to all promoters, sponsors and friends, without whose large commitment the festival would not be possible. Many highly talented young singers started a successful career through their appearance at the Rheinsberg festival. Singers who have started in Rheinsberg can be heard at the New York Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Salzburg Festival, other various internationl opera houses such as Athens, Stockholm, Tokyo, Vienna, Sydney, Zurich and nearly in all of the german opera houses.
